Islamabad
03 August 2010:
“Pakistan today demands our resolve
and commitment, Pakistani nation has
in past demonstrated the ability to
defeat disasters, and today also we
stand united in time of difficulty”,
said Lt Gen Haroon Aslam talking to
media while four trucks of relief
goods, including food, family tents,
blankets, charpais, kitchen items,
rice and other household goods were
dispatched to Muzzaffarabad, Bagh,
Mansehra and Balakot From ERRA HQ
today. ERRA is in touch with the
respective governments and through
SERRA and PERRA, two wings of ERRA
distribution of the goods will be
ensured. Gen Haroon who took charge
of ERRA few months back, said that
though the country is passing
through a testing time, but this
requires a collaborative effort at
national level and sharing what we
have with those in need including
material things and expertise.
ERRA being in the fifth year of
reconstruction and rehabilitation of
earthquake affected areas is now a
pool of experts but has always risen
to the occasion with actively
participating in relief whenever
there were difficult times. ERRA
sent truck loads of goods to
Malakand after operation and ERRA
was also the first organization to
dispatch a C130 full of relief items
along with a team of medical experts
to Baluchistan after the Earthquake
hit main parts of Baluchistan in
2008, said Gen Haroon. While four
trucks, 2 each for KPK and AJK will
be dispatched today relief activity
is likely to continue in coming days
also. Deputy Chairman ERRA has also
formed a relief centre for the flood
affectees. This relief centre is
formed to assure the easy and
constant access of relief to the
affectees. This camp will be
operational by tomorrow evening in
front ERRA head quarters opposite
Margallah Town, Murree Road
Islamabad. This camp will collect
dry food, medicine and other house
