Muhammad Haroon Aslam said that it
was due to the professionalism,
commitment and dedication of experts
from diverse fields in ERRA, that we
were able to effectively handle
earthquake 2005. Highly appreciating
outstanding performance of the
officers, and presenting shields to
the outgoing officers, he said that
young officers who dedicated
themselves for the uplift and
rehabilitation of affected people
are asset to the country. He mixed
up freely with the gathering and
expressed his full commitment to
lead the ERRA family towards its
goal.
Meanwhile, ERRA also organized a
one-day workshop to finalize the
plan for the improvement of water
supply quality and testing in
earthquake affected districts of
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and AJ&K in
collaboration with Federal
Government, provincial and state
governments together with experts
from UNICEF and other international
organizations. The plan will be
presented in a high level conference
for approval this month. ERRA has
already collaboration with UNICEF
and WHO to improve the quality of
drinking water and has started a
project for water quality
improvement and promotion of Hygiene
(WAQIPH), which is well on its way.
More than 4,000 water supply schemes
were damaged as a result of the
devastating earthquake of October
2005. ERRA took up the challenging
task of reconstruction and
rehabilitation of these schemes and
has successfully completed more than
3,850 schemes, whereas compared to
pre-earthquake situation where only
one water quality testing lab
existed, today eight labs have been
established showing ERRA’s resolve
to Build back better. ERRA has also
imparted training to senior officers
and staff of respective Government
departments for sustainability of
efforts made.
