On
October 8, 2009 the Prime Minister of Pakistan,
Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani visited Muzaffarabad, the
capital of AJ&K, in connection with 4th Remembrance
Day of 2005 Earthquake. During the visit he
inaugurated and visited different projects
constructed by ERRA. President AJ&K Raja Zulqarnain
Khan hosted a reception in his honor, which was
attended, among others by the Prime Minister of AJ&K,
Sardar Yaqoob Khan, Federal Minister for Kashmir
and Northern Affairs, Qamar-uz-Zaman Kaira,
Chairman ERRA, Altaf Muhammad Saleem, Deputy
Chairman ERRA, Lt Gen Sajjad Akram and other
dignitaries. Addressing the gathering on this
occasion the Prime Minister said:
"The Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation
Authority (ERRA) was established to undertake the
mission of relief, reconstruction and
rehabilitation of the victims of October 2005
Earthquake. In a short span of time, the
performance of ERRA has been extremely satisfying.
The Authority continues to discharge its duties in
a highly transparent and efficacious manner. I am
glad to know that ERRA has made laudable progress
in sectors such as Health, Education, Water &
Sanitation, Livelihood, Environment and Social
Welfare.
Due to ERRA's efforts, 3.5 million people have
returned to their homes, and six lac seismically
resistant houses have been constructed in place of
the houses which were destroyed due to the
earthquake. On behalf of the entire nation and on
my own behalf, I applaud the performance and
services rendered by the ERRA's staff. I hope that
they will continue to discharge their duties not as
a mere official obligation, but in the spirit of
serving the humanity."
